Vineyards

Our vineyards Wittmannshof and Jungenberg are located in the heart of the Seewinkel. This is the region with the most sunshine in Austria, Burgenland, which has about 2,000 hours of sunshine per year. With a unique combination of soil type, clone, rootstock, altitude and exposure wines of exceptional character and exciting complexity are vinified.

The Seewinkel is characterized by the Pannonian climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters. Together with the temperature-regulating Lake Neusiedl, it ensures a long vegetation period. Situated on average only 117 meters above the Adriatic Sea, this westernmost salt steppe of Eurasia is a region untypical for Austria with an impressive flora and fauna.

Jewel Jungenberg – Great terroir since 1214

Our vineyard Jungenberg is located at the northern tip of Lake Neusiedl in Jois. In 1214 Jungenberg was first mentioned as a location. At the beginning of the 2000s, we extensively examined the soil structure of the exceptional vineyards and divided them into four quarters - terrace, south slope, north slope and Auflangen. As a great terroir, this historic vineyard has unique soil conditions, optimal exposure to the sun, close proximity to Lake Neusiedl, a resulting microclimate and a long, rich history. Standing on the Jungenberg, the view sweeps over gentle hills and Lake Neusiedl with the Hungarian lowlands in the distance. Our approximately 8 hectares jewel Jungenberg offers perfect conditions for the production of balanced, complex and multi-faceted wines that reflect the character of the terroir. On the unique soil structure of the vineyard (with quartz, shell limestone with slate layers and a high clay content) we primarily cultivate the sophisticated grape varieties Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Franc and Merlot for our exceptional first-label wines.

Palace vineyard Wittmannshof – with 42 hectares one of the largest continuous vineyards of Austria

Our Wittmannshof, located near Halbturn Palace, is one of the largest contiguous vineyard sites in Austria with 42 hectares and is surrounded by the organic farms of Halbturn estate. The Wittmannshof is located on the breaking edge of the Parndorfer Platte towards the Pannonian lowlands. At the beginning of the 2000s, we divided the soil structures into six quarters and replanted them almost entirely. Only the 200-year-old Pinot Noir clones, which were formerly imported from Burgundy, remained, and the wine, which is being vinified from them, has a special place in our portfolio today. On the red gravel soil with embedded layers of lime sediment we primarily cultivate the grapes Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent, Zweigelt and Merlot.
